Course Summary

The course introduces you to the theories and methods of Psychology. It offers you the opportunity to look atsome of the explanations psychologists provide in trying to understand humans and their interactions with theworld, developing your psychological skills and knowledge. You’ll study a variety of psychological researchthat represents a range of psychologists' interests and the methods they use. Whether finding out how ourunconscious mind and childhood experiences influence us in later life, or why we follow instructions so readilyfrom authority figures (even if we say we wouldn’t!), Psychology will spark an interest and enquiry for all.

Course Details

The two-year course content includes:

Year 12

  • Cognitive, Social & Biological Psychology
  • Developmental Psychology
  • The psychology of individual differences
  • Ethics, ethnocentrism, nature vs. nurture
  • Psychological Methodology

Year 13

  • Applied psychology, including:
  • Issues in Mental Health
  • Child Psychology
  • Criminal Psychology

Entry requirements

As well as meeting our general entry requirements for Level 3 study, you will also need a minimum of grade 5 in GCSE Maths.

Your next steps...

The obvious progression from studying A-level Psychology is continuation at degree level. However, thecourse also offers the development of skills which will assist in most careers. The unit Criminal Psychology is particularly relevant to a career in the Police or Legal field. Mental Health psychology will provide a good understanding of health care and clinical practices.
