Course Summary
English Language and Literature is an exciting course if you enjoy all areas of the study of English. Thecourse draws on and expands on what you will have studied at GCSE. Anyone who loves diving intoa great piece of writing will thrive on this course as we explore, debate and analyse a wide range ofexciting texts, including prose, poetry, plays and non-fiction.
Course Details
Throughout the course, you will explore a range of prose (The Handmaid’s Tale and The Great Gatsby), poetry (Carol Ann Duffy), plays (Othello) and non-fiction (AQA’s Paris Anthology). For eachtext, we will consider the writer’s use of language and how their choices may have been influencedby the text’s social, historical and literary context. You will also have the chance to write about a textof your own choosing as part of the coursework element. This is an exciting opportunity for you toexplore an aspect of literature that you are interested in.

Entry requirements
As well as meeting our general entry requirements for Level 3 study, a grade 5 and 4 in both English Language and English Literature GCSE.
