Course Summary

Fancy yourself as a Fine Artist, exploring drawing and painting? Or a Sculptor, delving into the world of clay and cardboard. A Level Art, Craft and Design aims to equip students with a range of 2D and 3D media, processes, and techniques. Be enriched with an array of skills as you head into the art world or further education.
Course Details
In Year 12 you will learn about the different stages of the creative process, historical and contemporary practitioners, and develop a variety of drawing, painting and sculptural techniques. You will also compose a portfolio of work which demonstrates the development of your artistic skills. In Year 13 you will apply the skills and techniques you’ve learned in a personal investigation on an aspect of Art and Craft.
Entry requirements
As well as meeting our general entry requirements for Level 3 study, you will also need a minimum grade of a 5 in a GCSE arts-based course OR A BTEC Level 2 Merit or above. Prior experience is essential, or a portfolio of work seen at enrolment to the appropriate standard.

Students working within the Art and Design department have successfully progressed into range of degree including Fine Art, Printmaking, Graphics and Illustrator. Previous destinations of SM6 artists include Leeds Art University, Edinburgh University, and many more. Apprenticeships are also available for more specialist options such as storyboard assistants.
