Course Summary
For young people aged 16-24 years old with an Education, Health and Care Plan, Hull College offers you the chance to enrol on a supported internship. If you need support with your progression into work due to a disability or learning difficulty, You will get the opportunity to improve your knowledge and confidence for the next stage in your life.
Learning is delivered in small, supportive classes where you are encouraged to build the confidence, knowledge, and skills needed to succeed in the workplace. Classroom sessions focus on developing key employability skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, problem-solving, and following workplace routines. You will also explore personal development and independent living topics, including managing money, travel training, and health and wellbeing, to help prepare you for adult life. Tutors and learning support assistants work closely with you to provide individualised support that meets your communication, cognitive, and social needs. Lessons are interactive and practical, using role play, discussion, and scenario-based learning to build real-world understanding.
Work Placement Learning - work placement is a key part of the Supported Internship Programme, giving you the opportunity to experience real workplace environments and develop practical job skills. You will complete a minimum of 126 hours of work placement across the academic year, supported by the college’s work placement team. Placements are carefully matched to your interests, abilities, and career goals, with opportunities available across a wide range of sectors including hospitality, retail, business, childcare, art and design, IT, sport, and customer service. Throughout your placement, you will receive ongoing support from a Job Coach, who will help you settle into the workplace, learn routines, and build independence. Regular reviews involving you, your employer, and college staff help ensure consistent progress and a positive, supportive experience.
