Course Summary

Pre-Tech programmes offer practical experience and alongside English and maths in preparation for next steps within college technical programmes.

Course Details

Practical and motivating courses that cater for interests and aspirations. The new Pre-Tech programmes have been designed to include practical experience, progression skills and knowledge alongside English and Maths GCSEs. The Vocational units are skills-based and will prepare for next steps within technical programmes once completed.

The vocational courses are level 1 courses to enable core techniques and skills to be developed alongside business and communication abilities to prepare for future employability demands. Those starting in September will enrol on a Certificate.

The mandatory core units run alongside vocational pathways to ensure learners are preparing for next steps as soon as they start studying. Developing progression plans with support and core skills are part of this work to ensure all individuals have the tools to be successful.

Vocational Pathway - Art and Design

GCSEs study 3hrs per subject per week - Maths and/or English - specialist sessions for those not yet reaching grade 4+.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This is an assessment based course. Pre-Tech programmes have been designed to support practical experience, progression skills and knowledge alongside English and maths GCSEs.

The Vocational units are skills-based and will prepare for next steps within technical programmes once completed. The vocational course is a level 1 to enable core techniques and skills to be developed alongside employability, learning and communication development to prepare for future demands.

Entry requirements

GCSEs in English in Maths at grade 1 or above. Students applying for this course need to be motivated to progress into a technical area after a year of dedicated attendance, progress and results. Wants to re-sit both English & maths as they gained a mix of 1s or 2s in their GCSEs. Independent to study in vocational areas with a mix of support sessions with Core Pre-Tech Hub Teams.
