Course Summary

This is an exciting subject where you can delve deep into the inner workings of the human brain as you study what makes us tick on a daily basis. Psychology will test your skills of scientific investigation and evaluation as you research evidence to support psychological theories and concepts. You will develop your own investigative skills as you set up experiments to test psychological approaches.You will come away with a level of understanding of human behaviour that will influence your decision making and behaviour for the rest of your life.

Course Details

Within this subject you will study units on:

1. Approaches in psychology, i.e. the cognitive approach, the learning approach etc

2. Memory and forgetting including eyewitness testimony

3. Social learning and obedience

4. Biological and psychological influences on gender development and many more

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The course covers a wide range of content and skills and so a number of teaching methods are used. Students will take part in discussions as well as independent work in class, you will create and deliver presentations and develop and carry out your own practical investigations.

Examinations are at the end of the year for both AS and A level.There is no coursework element in this course.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at 4 or above including: English Language & Mathematics at 6 or above. Science GCSE at 6 or above.

Course availability is at the discretion of the Sixth Form Team.
