Course Summary

Trained hairdressers are always in demand! This is a one-year course that will provide you with the skills and experience for a fashionable future in the art of hair styling for both men and women.

WHO IS THE COURSE AIMED AT?

This course is for you if have an interest in hairdressing and want to start your journey to working in the hair industry. You should be positive and motivated, and able to provide models for hairdressing services.

Course Details

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

Throughout the course you will:

• Follow the health and safety practice in the salon
• Undertake client consultation for hair services
• Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
• Promote products and services to clients in a salon
• Cut women’s hair
• Colour and lighten hair
• Cut men’s hair

There are also a range of optional units such as:
• The art of dressing hair
• Styling men’s hair

Ideally, you will find regular work experience within the hairdressing industry and undertake independent practice and learning for around eight hours per week.

How will it be delivered and assessed?


Entry requirements

You must have a minimum of four GCSEs grade 9-3 or equivalent, including English, Maths and preferably Science.

EXPERIENCES

Teaching will take place in both the classroom and in the College’s impressive and fully equipped training salon, where you will develop your understanding of the practices and procedures needed for a career in hairdressing. You will be working with others and giving and receiving hairdressing services. You will also have the opportunity to take part in Upskilling and College events, like W Day ONE, running stalls that offer things like hair braiding.

PROGRESSION
This is the perfect course to set the basis for a Level 3 qualification in Hairdressing.

OUTCOMES

This course is for anyone who wants a career in hairdressing. You will be able to become either a hairdresser or barber, or if you want to go into a more specialist area, a colourist or hair stylist. Hairdressing and styling is a skill that is always needed, so you won’t be short of career opportunities once completing this course!
