Course Summary
It will enable you to prepare to make a recruitment application or provide a basis for further study and progression towards getting into a specific uniformed service. It will show you the practical qualities you require, not only for uniformed services, but also for employment in general by teaching transferable skills.
For 25-26 we have added new exciting elements into the programme so that you will have a basic introduction into Criminology and Pyschology. This will enable you to follow either the pathway to Level 3 Uniformed Public Services, should you wish to enter one of the services, or look towards an academic route to Level 3 Criminology, Psychology and Law and potentially University studies.
Course Details
What you will learn
You will learn how the different Uniformed Services operate and the types of skills you will need to succeed. Units will include the following topics:
- Investigate Employment in the Uniformed Services
- Physical Fitness for the Uniformed Services
- Develop Team Working and Problem Solving Skills
- Health and Safety in the Uniformed Services
- Health and Hygiene in the Uniformed Services
- Follow Uniformed Service Routine
- Exploring Equality and Diversity for the Uniformed Services
- Develop Team Working and Problem Solving Skills
- Introduction to Basic Criminology
- Introduction to Basic Psychology
- Skills and Behaviours
- Physical fitness
- Teamwork
- Leadership skills
- Awareness of Equality and Diversity
Work experience - Work experience opportunities include placements in local youth organisations, schools and public sector organisations. Events with the RAF, Royal Marines, Army and Police can also count towards work experience hours. You will undertake work experience of 20 hours, either external or internal.
Trips, visits & guest speakers - You will take part in various trips and visits, including the North Yorkshire Water Park (tbc), local trips to settings in the public service sector (e.g. fire station, law courts) and visits from sector specialists (e.g. members of the police services, fire service).
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment is based on the completion of assignment work and observation of a range of practical and skills-based tasks and activities.
Entry requirements
3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, preferably including either English or Maths
