Course Summary

This one-year programme provides an exciting introduction to applied science, giving you the opportunity to explore biology, chemistry, and physics while discovering how scientific principles are applied in real world industries. You’ll carry out practical experiments, record and analyse data, and investigate real scientific challenges through case studies, linking your learning to health, the environment, technology, and industrial applications.

The course combines classroom-based theory with hands-on laboratory work, allowing you to develop confidence and practical experience in scientific techniques. You’ll also learn to plan and carry out investigations independently, think critically, and apply problem-solving skills to real-life scenarios. Activities such as lab reports, poster presentations, and independent research projects help strengthen your communication, teamwork, and analytical abilities, all essential for a future in science.

You will complete a 30-hour work placement, gaining firsthand experience of professional scientific environments and learning practical skills that employers and higher education providers value. The programme also encourages professional behaviours such as accuracy, attention to detail, and safety awareness, giving you a strong foundation for further study or a career in science, research, or industry.
