Course Details
Whilst working in our state-of-the-art, professional training salon, you will develop skills in shampooing, conditioning, styling, colouring, cutting and perming hair. These are all essential for your dream career – either working in a salon or as a self-employed stylist.
Competition can be fierce, but we will make sure you have the skills you need to set yourself apart from the rest of the crowd. And it’s not all about women’s hair – male grooming is an ever-growing industry and experienced, creative barbers are more in demand than ever.
You will also have the opportunity to future proof your skills, with exciting and innovative areas such as sustainability and biotech hair. With many other industries disappearing from the high street as a result of the rise in digital markets, hairdressing and barbering is one career that cannot be delivered online.
Work experience could include working on fashion shoots, theatre productions and involvement in competitions, both locally and nationally. Our Image Salon is open to the public, so you’ll have the chance to work with a wide range of clientele. This will enable you to practise treatments and hone your practical skills, plus gain experience in areas such as customer service skills, handling money and stock control.
At Level 2, you could study:
- Cutting women’s hair
- Colouring and lightening hair
- Cutting men’s hair
- Hairdressing reception duties
- Perming
- Plaiting and twisting.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment is through observation of practical skills carried out on paying customers in the salon environment. Learners also participate in written and oral questioning or online multiple-choice tests.
Entry requirements
3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, preferably including either English or Maths. Progression from Level 1 to 2 and from Level 2 to 3 would also require a pass at the lower-level vocational course
