What you will learn - On the BTEC Diploma in Design and Fashion, you’ll develop a broad range of creative and technical skills that prepare you for progression into further study or the fashion and design industries. Throughout the course, you will:
- Build strong design and creativity skills, learning how to generate original ideas, develop concepts, and communicate your vision through sketching, illustration, and mood boards.
- Explore textiles and materials, experimenting with fabric manipulation, surface pattern, printmaking, and sustainable approaches to fashion.
- Gain hands‑on technical skills in pattern cutting, garment construction, sewing techniques, and producing finished fashion outcomes to a professional standard.
- Use industry-standard tools and software, including digital design platforms to support portfolio development.
- Develop visual communication skills, presenting your work clearly through look books, portfolios, and digital media.
- Understand fashion trends and research methods, learning how to use trend forecasting, cultural influences, and market insights to shape your designs.
- Strengthen project management and collaboration, working on practical assignments that mirror real-world creative industry briefs.

How will it be delivered and assessed?
Work experience - Work experience is a mandatory element of this programme. You will work alongside an employability and placement advisor to source work experience opportunities and prepare you for industry experience related to your programme of study and overall career goals.
Trips, visits & guest speakers - Taking part in the Hull and East Riding Fashion week. Many guest speakers to help you build new emerging skills to enhance your portfolios. Trips to London plus many more opportunities if you were to study with us.
Entry requirements
Level 2 – 3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, preferably including either English or maths.
