Course Summary
This qualification covers a range of key subject areas that provide learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to care for and educate children aged between 0 and 11 years 11 months old.
Course Details
It has been designed to support learners to progress on to Level 3 qualifications across a number of sectors, including the Early Years Educator sector, the Supporting Teaching and Learning sector, and the Children and Young People sector.
What you will learn:
- Child development from birth to 11 Years 11 months
- Play and learning
- Exploring legislation
- The role of the childcare practitioner
- Nutrition
- Physical development and physical activity
Work experience - Work placement is MANDATORY for this course. You will spend at least 120 hours over the year in placement developing practical skills and getting a realistic picture of life in an early years setting. Placements include school settings (primary), day-care centres, nursery schools and more.
Trips, visits & guest speakers - A variety of exciting trips, visits and guest speakers will be made available to you during your time on the Childcare course. These may include local Childhood Centres, and a Forest/Beach School. You will also learn additional valuable skills such as First Aid, Creativity and Food Safety.
Entry requirements
3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, preferably including either English or Maths

If you have good attendance and behaviour and you have successfully completed your course, you may be able to progress to the next level, following a satisfactory interview with a Tutor.
If you’ve finished your Level 2, you can progress on the T Level course. You will be offered advice and guidance from our Career Advisers on how to apply for a job or an Apprenticeship Career Opportunities:
