Course Summary

On our childcare and education courses, you will learn different subjects to help you build up your confidence as well as helping children learn in a childcare setting. Some of the units include healthy eating, safety, craft activities, psychology and learning through play.

There are so many opportunities in childcare. Many learners have gone on to work with children in nurseries, classrooms, as teachers or special educational need support staff and even as personal nannies for families. You will learn exciting and innovative skills in childcare and education in a state-of-the-art nursery and sensory room environment.

Work experience - work placement is MANDATORY for this course. You will spend at least 250 hours over the year in placement developing practical skills and getting a realistic picture of life in an early years setting. Placements include school settings (primary and secondary), day-care centres, family hubs, nursery schools and more.

Trips, visits & guest speakers - A variety of exciting trips, visits and guest speakers will be made available to you during your time on the Early Years / Childcare course. These may include Doncaster Wildlife Park, Eureka, local Childhood Centres, and a Forest School. You will also learn additional valuable skills such as Paediatric First Aid, Stress Awareness (NEW for 24-25) and even Makaton. Level 1 – you may carry out an internal work related activity or an short external placement in a local early years setting.

Entry requirements

3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, preferably including either English or Maths

If you have good attendance and behaviour and you have successfully completed your course, you may be able to progress to the next level, following a satisfactory interview with a Tutor.
