Are you interested in starting a career in hairdressing or beauty therapy, but want to develop your skills and confidence before progressing to a higher-level qualification? Our VTCT Level 1 Diploma in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector is designed to give you the knowledge, practical skills and experience you need to take your first steps into the industry.

This is a full-time programme delivered over approximately 2.5–3 days per week, combining practical training with theory, personal development, employability and careers support.

At Niche, learning is practical and industry-focused, helping you understand what it is really like to work in a professional salon environment.

Where could it take you?

The Level 1 Diploma can provide a foundation for progression onto Level 2 Hairdressing, Level 2 Beauty Therapy or other relevant vocational programmes.
It can also help you develop the confidence and employability skills needed to explore salon apprenticeships, work experience and entry-level opportunities within the hair and beauty industry.

Maths & English

Alongside your Hair and Beauty course, you’ll also continue working on your Maths and English. If you achieve a Grade 3 or below in Maths and English, you’ll work towards Functional Skills qualifications as part of your programme.

If you achieve a Grade 4 or above, then you will be exempt from completing Maths and English.

Industry Experience

There’s much more to your course than the classroom! You’ll take part in a full programme of Hair & Beauty enrichment activities, giving you the chance to explore different careers, discover what it’s really like to work in the industry and meet people working in the sector.

You’ll also complete work experience, giving you the chance to get out into the workplace, experience a real working environment and start building the skills and confidence employers are looking for.

You will be introduced to the exciting world of hair and beauty and develop an understanding of working professionally within the industry. You will have opportunities to develop practical skills and learn about areas such as -

• Customer service and communication
• Health and safety
• The hair and beauty industry and different career opportunities
• Developing your confidence and employability skills

Learners must be keen to learn, and be able to commit to 2.5 - 3 days attendance per week. Our expected minimum attendance is above 90%.
