Course Summary

This course is one single qualification. For the full-time Sport course (3 A Level equivalent), please see Extended Diploma in Sport.

Learners completing these qualifications in the Sports Coaching and Development sector will be aiming to goon to employment, often via the stepping-stone of higher education. The sport sector is a fast-growing industry,currently worth over £39 billion to the economy and continuing to grow annually.

Course Outline

Learners will study a variety of theoretical concepts including sports psychology, sports development, researchmethods and many other areas of interest and importance in sport and physical education. Practicalelements will cover coaching, massage and fitness testing.

Wider Skills development

These fall into 3 main categories:

• cognitive and problem-solving skills: using critical thinking, and applying creative solutions

• interpersonal skills: communicating, working collaboratively, negotiating and influencing, self-presentation

• intrapersonal skills: self-management, adaptability and resilience, self-monitoring and development.

Entry requirements

You will need to meet our general entry requirements for Level 3 study.

Although not essential, students who have studied a sports-related course

such as the BTEC Level 1/2 Sport/Tech Award in Sport or a GCSE in Physical

Education will find the knowledge advantageous.
