Course Summary

The AAQ Level 3 BTEC Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care provides a broad introduction to the sector, combining theoretical knowledge with applied learning. The course supports progression to higher education or careers in nursing, social work, and allied health professions.

Course Details

It includes four units: Human Lifespan and Development, Human Biology and Health, Health and Social Care Practice, and one optional unit such as Health Science or Promoting Health Education.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment involves two externally marked exams and two internally assessed coursework units. Students explore physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development, alongside anatomy, care values, and public health.

Entry requirements

You will need to meet our general entry requirements for Level 3 study, which is 5 GCSE passes including English. As well as this, students should also have a minimum of a grade 4 in Science.

This course is the ideal preparation for progression to employment in the Health & Social care sector. Previous SM6 students have progressed to degrees in nursing, midwifery, social work, education studies, psychology, primary teaching, early childhood studies and occupational health – to name just a few!
