Course Summary
Do you love the challenge of solving problems with numbers? Are you thinking of working in engineering or science? Do you want a better choice of career? Maths is the purest science, providing support for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Psychology, Sociology, Computing, Business Studies and Engineering courses. You will build on your existing knowledge of Algebra and Trigonometry and learn new skills in the study of Calculus, and you will develop your problem-solving skills. Maths is one of the most useful courses to study, because most jobs and university courses involve Maths in some way. Employers and university lecturers know that you will have the ability to look at problems and challenges and find solutions.
WHO IS THE COURSE AIMED AT?
This course is for you if you are interested in Maths or if you simply enjoy it! If you have an interest in progressing onto university on any of the courses listed above, then Maths will either be a ‘must have it’ requirement or ‘would be useful if they had it’.
Course Details
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
1. Pure Mathematics (e.g. Proof, Algebra and Functions, Trigonometry, Differentiation, Integration)
2. Mechanics (e.g. Vectors, Kinematics, Forces and Newton’s Laws, Moments)
3. Statistics (e.g. Statistical Sampling, Data Presentation and Interpretation, Probability)
You will build on your existing knowledge of algebra and trigonometry and learn new skills in the study of calculus, and you will develop your problem-solving skills.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Entry requirements
You must have a minimum of five GCSEs grades 9-4, including English Language. You must have gained a minimum of grade 6 in Maths.

EXPERIENCES
This course will provide you with the opportunity to explore Maths and prepare you for a career in STEM. As a student on our Maths course, you will be given the chance to take part in revision sessions and study groups, as well as take part in trips to leading universities. You will also be able to hear from guest speakers on the subject, and take part in Maths challenges with regional and national colleges.
PROGRESSION
Maths is a great subject for those considering completing a degree in a STEM subject at university. Courses like Maths, Physics or Engineering are a good fit for those who choose a Maths A Level. Maths can also help if you are looking at an apprenticeship in a subject like accountancy.
OUTCOMES
Students who complete a qualification in Maths go on to a wide variety of jobs. These can include: Actuary, Astronomer, Accountant, Game Designer, Data Analyst or Teacher, to name a few.
