Course Summary
Photography offers us so many ways to explore and analyse the world around us. It has never been a better time to be a photographer with new technologies emerging all the time and a multitude of platforms to promote your work. A Level Photography teaches you how to think creatively and develop your ideas in new and exciting ways. This course will help you develop as a creative individual and give you a set of skills that are valued in any chosen career.
WHO IS THE COURSE AIMED AT?
This course is for you if you are considering an art, design or photography-related career pathway, if you want to broaden your knowledge and develop your skills in photography. If you enjoy a mix of technical and creative approaches, and like to think creatively and solve problems.
Course Details
You will produce a set of work which builds into a “personal investigation” that is worth 60% of your final grade. The externally set assignment is 40% of the grade and is theme based also. These themes are set by the exam board and you will develop ideas to a final outcome produced in 15 hours of focused work. Coursework units are internally marked and externally moderated. You will present your work through Instagram with an account specifically for your A Level Photography work.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Entry requirements
You must have a minimum of five GCSEs at grades 9-4, including English Language and Maths.
It is preferable that you have a minimum of a grade 4 at GCSE or Level 2 Merit in an art-based subject. If you don’t, you will need to bring a portfolio of work to your interview which we will review.

EXPERIENCES
This course will provide you with the opportunity to explore Photography as a medium. You will go on trips to places like the Deep and many art galleries to grow your portfolio and help you to understand different techniques. Within college, you will be able to take part in our Upskilling Programme and our Creative Arts Festival, where you will be able to showcase your work at the end of the year.
PROGRESSION
A Level Art & Design (Photography) is the perfect basis for a degree in an art-based or creative subject like Photography or Fine Art. This Level 3 qualification can also prepare you for a higher-level apprenticeship.
OUTCOMES
Students who complete a qualification in Photography go on to a wide variety of jobs. These can include: Graphic Designer, Photographer, Camera Operator, Features Editor, Video Editor or Teacher, to name a few.
