Course Summary
The Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in the creative art of cutting or dressing hair, how to provide effective shampooing and conditioning services, the artistic skill of colouring and lightening hair and how to provide a good consultation service for your clients.
The purpose of this qualification is to develop your practical skills to a high level of occupational ability to enable you to perform your own salon services.
Course Details
During the programme, you will complete a range of mandatory units that develop the essential practical skills and knowledge needed to work within the hairdressing industry.
Mandatory Units
- Cut hair using hairdressing techniques
- The art of dressing hair
- Client consultation for hair services
- Follow health and safety practice in the salon
- Working in the hair industry
- Colour and lighten hair
- Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
Optional Units
You may also complete a selection of optional units, which can include:
- Style and finish Afro-textured hair
- Salon reception duties
- Display stock to promote sales in a salon
- Promote products and services to clients in a salon
- The art of colouring hair
- Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector
- Perm and neutralise hair
- Provide scalp massage services
- Plaiting and twisting hair
Optional units may vary depending on programme delivery, learner needs and awarding organisation requirements.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
As part of the Level 2 Diploma in Women's Hairdressing, you will learn the knowledge and skills at Avant Hair Academy to develop your practical skills to a high level of occupational ability to enable you to perform your own salon services.
Entry requirements
- Appropriate personal presentation including clothing, hair and personal hygiene.
- Practical, organisational and social skills
- Attention to detail
- A creative aptitude
- A good sense of humour/amicable nature and communication skills whether dealing face to face with clients or speaking over the telephone.
- Reasonable level of literacy and numeracy is required
- Interviews and initial assessments will be carried out with Avant before any place is confirmed.
Those who do not meet the required entry requirements may still be eligible for the Hairdressing Certificate
