Course Summary
This Level 1 Engineering course is a practical, hands-on introduction to the exciting world of engineering. You’ll experience a range of activities including welding, machining, mechanical maintenance, mechatronics, robotics and automation, while also exploring how engineering is shaping sustainability, aerospace and future technologies. Using projects such as motorcycles and mechanical systems to bring engineering to life, you’ll discover what interests you, develop practical and technical skills, and prepare for progression to Level 2 Engineering, an apprenticeship or further technical training.
Course Details
The City & Guilds Level 1 NVQ Certificate in Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) provides learners with a practical foundation for progressing into engineering. All learners develop the essential core skills of working safely in an engineering environment, carrying out engineering activities efficiently and effectively, and using and communicating technical information. These are then applied through practical units that can include mechanical assembly, turning and machining, fabrication and platework, electrical wiring and other engineering activities, allowing learners to experience different disciplines rather than specialising too early.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Competence based assessment throughout the duration of the course.
Entry requirements
This course is designed for students who are interested in an engineering career but did not attain suitable GCSE grades – you will study GCSE English and Maths along side the Engineering qualification.
