Course Summary

The creative industries are one of the fastest growing in the UK. This two-year Extended Diploma course provides the opportunity to immerse yourself within Art and Design, providing you with a skill set to access the best opportunities within the creative industries.

Who is the course aimed at?

This course is for you if you are looking to extend your skills across a range of art approaches. It will provide you with the skills and experience to take you into employment or further study.

Course Details

In your first year you will explore a broad range of projects to develop your skills and multi-disciplinary techniques to create a personal portfolio of work.

In your second year you will continue to develop the skills learnt in year one, completing projects that explore experimental techniques in painting, printmaking and illustration.

You will also develop a final major project, working in your preferred specialism.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Entry requirements

You must have a minimum of four GCSEs at grades 9-4, including English Language, Maths and a grade 4 or equivalent in an art-based subject. If you don’t, you will need to bring a portfolio of work to your interview which we will review.

Your next steps...

Experiences

This course will provide you with the opportunity to go on many trips to art galleries and exhibitions to enrich your learning. As well as this, you will be given the chance to exhibit your work outside of the classroom, in college shows and galleries but also in local and national events. We have had many students who have had their work shortlisted for a number of national awards, as well as one winning the student prize at the Ferens Open. Our Art Department is also heavily involved with our Upskilling & Enrichment Programme, so you will be able to develop your skills outside of lesson time with a range of workshops and activities.

Progression

Art & Design is the perfect subject to lead onto a creative or art-based career. However, because this is a Level 3 qualification, it means that you can also explore opportunities like higher-level apprenticeships, jobs in the creative industry or higher education such the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design here at Wilberforce.

Outcomes

Students who complete a qualification in Art go on to a wide variety of jobs. These can include: Artist, Interior Designer, Illustrator, Gallery Curator or Teacher, to name a few.
