Course Summary

This Level 2 BTEC Art and Design course is designed for students who want to explore their creativity and develop core art and design skills in a supportive, hands-on environment. Whether you’re aiming to progress to a higher-level course or begin a creative career, this course provides the foundation you need.

You will work on exciting projects across a range of media and techniques, developing your practical skills, creativity, and confidence. The course is largely coursework-based, allowing you to develop a comprehensive portfolio that showcases your individual talents.

WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?

Core art and design techniques in 2D and 3D

How to develop and present a creative portfolio

Researching and analysing the work of other artists and designers

Drawing, painting, textiles, sculpture, digital media, and photography

How to communicate your ideas visually

Time management and project planning skills

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English. An interest in art and design is essential. A small portfolio of work may be requested during the application process.

EXPERIENCES

You will have the opportunity to work on real-world design briefs, take part in exhibitions, and visit galleries and museums. There may also be chances to collaborate on community projects or enter local and national art competitions.

PROGRESSION

Successful completion of the Level 2 BTEC Art and Design course can lead to:

Level 3 Art and Design qualifications (such as BTEC Extended Diploma or UAL Diploma)

Specialist creative courses in areas such as Graphic Design, Fashion, Photography, or Illustration

Apprenticeships in the creative sector
