A Level Religious Studies

Throughout your studies you will:

• Understand and assess the views of theists, atheists and agnostics.

Philosophy of Religion

• Ancient philosophical influences – Plato + Aristotle
• The nature of the soul, mind and body
• Arguments about the existence or non-existence of God
• The nature and impact of religious experience
• The challenge for religious belief of the problem of evil
• Ideas about the nature of God
• Issues in religious language.

Ethics

• Normative ethical theories – Utilitarianism/ Natural Law/ Kantian Ethics/ Situation Ethics
• The application of ethical theories – Business Ethics/ Euthanasia/ Sexual Ethics
• Ethical language and thought
• The conscience

Developments in religious thought

• Augustine and human nature
• Death and the afterlife
• Jesus – teacher, liberator, Son of God
• Moral principles and actions
• Religious pluralism and theology
• Gender theology
• Challenge of secularism
• Liberation Theology
