Course Summary

As an Art and Design student you will be a keen observer and maker of Art. You will have a passion for creating and making. The course aims to develop students individual practical skills in Art and Design, leading to personal responses to a variety of themes and concepts.

Course Details

You will explore a variety of media and materials, techniques and processes such as: drawing, painting, print making, collage, digital art and sculpture. Alongside practical work, students will research other artists and practitioners as part of the contextual studies element of the course. Specification within Art and Design are: Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Textile Design, Three-Dimensional Design, Critical and Contextual Studies.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will have the opportunity to experiment using a wider range of materials, techniques and processes, bespoke to your area of interest. You will discover your own unique style and interests and have control over the type of artwork that you produce as part of your individual extended projects . You will have access to a dedicated Sixth Form Art Studio and have your work display in an exhibition.

During Year 12 students will complete an AS-Level in their chosen area. This will help you to develop your skills and use of media and materials and allow you to explore themes relevant to your interests. Year 12 work is 100% Coursework based. A Portfolio of work will be assessed. By the end of Year 12 students will decide upon their chosen line of enquiry for their individual extended project, the bulk of which will be carried out in Year 13, which includes a written essay to accompany their practical work. The Externally Set Assignment is received in February of Year 13 when students choose from a selection of different starting points, complete planning and preparation on this theme, culminating in a 15 hour controlled assessment in April/May. Pupils complete their A-Level in Art and Design in Year 13.
