About us

RDUTC is a school that means business. We are situated in the centre of Hull, next to Hull New Theatre. Working in partnership with the University of Hull and the region’s leading employers, we provide our students with a unique, employer-led education that gives them the edge in terms of higher education and employment opportunities and fast-tracks them into exciting and lucrative careers.

The RDUTC curriculum is designed to:

  • ‘do education differently’ to ensure that every student, including those disaffected with traditional education, fulfils their academic, social and creative potential and becomes the best person they can be;
  • maximise opportunities for students to apply theoretical learning to real-life problems and employer-led projects;
  • ensure all students develop high quality verbal, written, visual and digital communication skills;
  • ensure all students acquire sound personal, professional and entrepreneurial knowledge and skills;
  • develop a digitally talented workforce to address the STEAM skills gap;
  • contribute to the economic development of the Humber region by providing highly skilled local young people to work in the engineering, digital and creative sectors;
  • engage young women with qualifications and careers in STEAM industries to address the gender gap.

Our curriculum comprises a range of academic, technical and professional qualifications (including GCSEs and A Levels). These have been selected in partnership with our employer partners specifically to develop the knowledge and skills that industry is crying out for.

We specialise in ‘STEAM’: Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths. Our students have the unique opportunity to take the theory they learn and apply it to real projects designed and delivered by our University and Employer Partners. This both extends their theoretical understanding and, crucially, enables them to develop their personal, employability and technical skills in a real work environment. No other school or college in the area can offer this. Neither can they match our learning environment: our facilities are state-of-the-art, making us the most technology advanced school in the country.

In addition to our qualifications, we prioritise the development of personal and employability skills, including leadership, teamwork, independent learning, project management, innovation and creative thinking. We also ensure that our students have the information they need to lead happy, safe and heathy lifestyles.

Students can join us at the start of Year 10 or Year 12. To find out more, register for one of our Open Events via this website.

Additional information

Our approach to education combines the study of core GCSEs and A Levels with a range of creative, technical and professional qualifications that employers and universities are crying out for.

In addition to our exciting qualifications, we prioritise the development of important personal and employability skills, including teamwork, leadership, communication, independence, resilience and entrepreneurship.

If you are fortunate enough to become one of our students, you’ll work on exciting projects with experts from our hugely successful local employer partners and the University of Hull, developing employability and technical skills in a real work environment.

What is a UTC

University Technical Colleges (UTCs) are government-funded schools that offer young people a great deal more than traditional schools. Working in partnership with their university and local employers, these institutions provide an employer-led model of learning working within industry standard facilities to produce the inventors, designers, software developers, programmers, engineers, scientists and technicians of tomorrow.
