About us

Nominated as one of North England's Top 10 Schools by the Sunday Times Parent Power survey

Independence, maturity & leadership. These are just three of the qualities that pupils will take away with them after their time in our Sixth Form.

In the Sixth Form, students are able to take on new responsibilities and challenges, and enjoy greater independence with their studies and time management. They will be encouraged to exceed what is expected of them and leave with the skills to equip them for their next steps.

Sixth-Form students are encouraged to make the most of our extensive extra-curricular programme which includes a whole host of activities both in school and out in the locality. Supporting and giving back to the community is an important part of the ethos of Hymers College and our students have been involved in a number of projects from listening to children read in several local Primary Schools, to collecting toys and games for vulnerable children.

Hymers offers a wide range of linear A levels - nearly all students study 3 A levels (Further Mathematics students will study 4). Th extended Project Qualification is a popular extra choice.

What makes us different?

Head Girl & Head Boy...

“At no other time does the Hymers motto “High Merit, High Reward” ring more true than during sixth form. If we could summarise Hymers in three words, we would choose “inspiring”, “challenging”, and “rewarding”. Our choice largely stems from the atmosphere created by students and staff alike, who drive for success in all that they do. In whichever field, everyone is pushed to fulfil their maximum potential; evidence of this can be seen in the results that students achieve.

Hymers is not solely an academic institution, although our attainment in this area makes us proud. The wide range of extracurricular activities are a vital part of sixth form life. Students are implored to utilise the vast opportunities available to them in sport, drama, debating, art and other pursuits.

The staff are responsive to their students’ interests, hence many new clubs are created each year based on demand for them. Alternatively, many clubs in sixth form can be largely run by students themselves. The independence given to sixth formers enables us to develop important skills for life outside of school, whilst being in a supportive environment.

With all that is on offer, we believe that Hymers is very much what you make of it."
