About us

Hull College is at the forefront of vocational education for school leavers in the city and offers a platform for you to achieve your goals.

We have one focus at the College - to create careers, not courses. We pride ourselves on this approach, ensuring our learners leave us with the skills, knowledge and experience needed to begin a career in the industry of their choice, while being confident and ready to meet the demands of learning, work and life.

We offer a wide range of technical and professional qualifications across many different sectors - from engineering to catering and hair & beauty to construction - taught by industry experienced professional tutors who are on-hand to support you through your journey with us. And, as our study programmes are developed in conjunction with employers, you’ll develop the skills they are looking for which will stand you in good stead when you’re looking to move into the world of employment.

Student support

Students are central to everything we do at Hull College. As well as our extensive range of courses and study options, we offer excellent support services to ensure your time with us is a positive and productive experience. Here’s just some of the assistance we provide…

Careers Education, Information, Advice & Guidance
Our aim is to support you on the journey to your dream job, and we have a team of fully qualified impartial careers advisors ready to meet your needs. All students at the College are entitled to high quality and independent 1:1 careers guidance to support them in acquiring the knowledge, skills, attitudes and attributes to manage their life, learning and work.

Additional Learning Support
The College has a specialist team of support workers available to provide dedicated support to students who require it. It is essential that students who require additional support should notify the College of any learning difficulty or disability before starting any course. Support is also available for any student who requires assistance with english, maths or language skills.

Counselling
The College provides free, confidential and professional counselling as part of our commitment to the mental well-being of students. Anyone can refer themselves, or be referred by a member of staff and can attend counselling around any issue that may be affecting them, whether it is personal or related to life at College.

Safeguarding
The College recognises its legal duties and responsibilities to safeguard and promote the welfare of everyone who attends the College. We work with the local Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults Boards and other agencies ensuring staff are well trained to support anyone who may have concerns about their safety or concerns regarding abuse or neglect. We also have dedicated staff to support you with any welfare or guidance concerns you may have.

Financial Support
Financial support is available to students who face the greatest barriers to entering, continuing and succeeding in Further Education. For 16-18 year-olds, funds are provided by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) to colleges and then distributed to those students whose effective participation in education and training may not be possible without the provision of appropriate levels of financial support.

What makes us different?

So why should you choose us to provide the next stage of your education? Well, take a look at some of the ways we can help to prepare you for your future career path…

Hands On Learning Experience
Do you learn better by working with your hands? Do you retain information better by ‘doing’ rather than ‘listening’? If so, studying one of our vocational courses could well be the perfect option for you! All our courses are progression-focused, employer-led and skills-based - meaning you’ll get hands-on and learn the practical skills you need as well as the theory. In a nutshell - you will have the skills and credentials employers are looking for when you leave us.

Industry-Standard Facilities
Master your trade in our start-of-the-art facilities - including engineering and construction workshops, beauty therapy and hairdressing salons, kitchens, dance studios, and media suites! This means our training is delivered in industry-standard learning environments and that you get to learn your trade on the same equipment that you would be using in your job, ensuring you’re fully prepared for work in your chosen profession.

Excellent Links To Employers
We have built excellent relationships with a wide variety of local and national employers and organisations to provide our students with specialist work experience/placement opportunities. This allows you to gain essential skills and knowledge that helps job applications and CVs to stand out, while also setting you up for whatever comes next.

Clear Progression Routes
Whatever you’re studying, vocational courses can prepare you for the next step on to higher education, an apprenticeship or even your very first job - in some cases they can even give you a head start! And the statistics back us up with 93% of our students progressing to employment, apprenticeships, further training or University after completing courses with us.

Learn In A Supportive Atmosphere
Further Education is not like being at school. You’ll find that you are treated more like an adult when studying at Hull College, continuing your learning process in an environment where everyone is both valued and respected. Our aim is to support you - whatever your age or background - on the journey to securing your dream job. We genuinely care about your well-being and your future and will give you every opportunity to maximise your potential.
