The North Humberside Motor Trades Group Training Association (GTA) was formed in 1972 by employers within the Retail Motor Industry with the support of the Industry Training Body, the Road Transport Industry Training Board. Upon the cessation of the statutory levy in the late 1980’s, the GTA decided to become a registered charity in order to maintain its objective :
“To provide, further and assist in the provision of training for persons employed or intending to be employed, in road transport activities”.
Charitable status was achieved in 1990. The GTA is run by the industry for the benefit of the industry and on a non-profit making basis. We are committed to high quality training demonstrated by our achievement of the Investors in People.
We are an approved centre for the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) and our quality standards are rigorously maintained at all times. Part of this achievement of quality comes from highly motivated, qualified and experienced staff that works closely as a team. Because of our high standards we were awarded the prestigious IMI Approved Centre of the Year 2018 Award.

We have a dedicated member of staff that is the nominated Safeguarding officer so learners have someone they can talk to if necessary at any time during their day at College. All tutors are fully trained in safeguarding and equality and diversity and have a close working relationship with all learners. One to one reviews are carried out periodically throughout the study programme.
Learners have the opportunity to apply for a bursary on start of the course programme.
We offer the opportunity to apply for a student union card after 6 weeks of attendance.
We are an award winning automotive academy specialising in the motor industry. All of our tutors and assessors have worked for many years in the motor industry and bring a wealth of experience and knowledge with them. Our class sizes are small so every learner gets the highest quality learning experience. We pride ourselves on having the most up to date tools and equipment in our fully working workshop that learners use to gain practical experience to back up the theory that they learn in the classroom.
We are located in reach of many bus routes in particular we are very close to the park and ride on Priory Park East.
We offer a range of industry recognised qualification to vehicle maintenance companies across Yorkshire, qualifications such as MOT New Testers, MOT Centre Managers, hybrid training, air conditioning and many more specialised courses.
We have many links with garages and dealerships across the city - working with them for work experience and apprenticeship opportunities for our existing and new learners.
