Student support

Our students are more than just one of the masses. They benefit from personalised support, advice and guidance and an excellent enrichment offer to develop young people who have not only the grades, but the personal qualities and characteristics they need to succeed on their next step of their learning journey.

Informal Academic Support:

There are a number of different ways that students are supported with their studies informally in Sixth Form, these include:

> Lesson support.

> Feedback in lessons and exam questions.

> Using the study cycle (Cornell notes, flash cards, brain dumps and exam questions).

> Independent learning tasks (homework).

> Support sessions.

> #Overtoyou - attend sessions P6.

> Focused #Overtoyou

You are also supported by a mentor, who will help you with any issues that you may have in Sixth Form. You meet with your mentor once every three weeks to check your progress and wellbeing.

We have a strong emphasis on future pathways and developing aspirations, whether you are looking at university, higher/degree apprenticeship or employment. To help develop our students we have developed a wide range of partnerships including Russell Group university partnerships such Next Step York (University of York), Newcastle Partners (Newcastle University) and an emerging partnership with King’s College, Cambridge.

We partner with Morrison’s to deliver our year 13 Employability Skills Programme and are proud members of the Bridlington Medical and Health and Social Care Academy for students looking at one of the 365 roles in the NHS. This emphasis on advice and guidance means all of our students go on to positive destinations.

We are very proud of our Sixth Formers, who all play an active part in the academic and social life of the school through the range of enrichment opportunities available, acting as positive role models for younger students.

My name is Nicole and I studied Maths, Biology and Art at Bridlington Sixth Form. I decided that university wasn’t for me and I chose to do a traineeship when I left. I always wanted to be an accountant so I started applying for apprenticeships, I then got offered a position in the tax department at Smailes Goldie in Hull and I am now working towards my ATT (Association of taxation technicians) qualification. I have already passed two written exams and have one more written exam to pass along with two computer based exams and then I will be fully qualified and hopefully move on to do CTA and become a chartered tax advisor. At work I manage a portfolio of 370 personal tax clients for whom I complete their self-assessment tax returns every year. I love my job and my work colleagues have become like a second family. Without sixth form I wouldn’t be where I am today. The qualifications I acquired at sixth form where necessary for me to get the job and when I was at sixth form all of my teachers helped me to write my CV to a high standard which played a crucial part in me being selected for the interview process.

Hi my name is Samuel, and I’m a marine biologist in the Maldives. My main duties include collecting data on marine life through snorkelling and diving, (including turtles, mantas, dolphins and sharks); releasing baby turtles that hatch on the island back to the ocean; coral gardening and coral propagation; and trying to create awareness on marine conservation and marine pollution, particularly plastic in our ocean!

I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help and guidance I received at Bridlington Sixth Form. The staff helped me set high goals for further education and offered a great support network th at helped me achieve those targets and succeed academically. Throughout my time there, the sixth form encouraged me to follow to my passion, and specifically related to my current job, also helped get me some work experience at Scarborough Sea Life Centre. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bridlington School Sixth Form and would recommend to others to study there .

My name is George. I left Bridlington Sixth Form after studying biology, chemistry and maths A-levels. I am currently studying medicine at the University of Liverpool in my final year and have recently accepted my first job as a doctor working in Southport district hospital from August. Without the support of my teachers at sixth form I would not have succeeded to be where I am today. I am incredibly grateful for the passion and dedication of the staff, who regularly provided extra teaching opportunities and support with my application which allowed me to achieve my goal.
