Together with the fundamentals of General (Mechanical & Electrical) Engineering this programme aims to develop a clear understanding of the principles and skills involved in this Engineering discipline. The course has a strong vocational emphasis and will provide you with general transferable skills in readiness for employment or personal development in this specialised field.

Course Details

This course focuses on the education and training of engineers and technicians employed at a professional level in a variety of types of technical work. This includes Analytical Methods for Engineers; Engineering Science; Project Design; Dynamics; Fluid Mechanics; Electrical Power; Electrical Principles; Personal & Professional Development.

It gives you the chance to gain a nationally recognised vocational qualification.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Part-time Day Release - All classes are held from 1:30pm until 8pm on a Tuesday and the course lasts for 2 years.

Teaching methods include lectures, discussions, industry visits and laboratory experiments; assessment is by coursework and assignment marking.

Entry requirements

  • GCSE maths and English grade A*-C or equivalent; AND
  • A related Level 3 qualification, which could be an Access to Higher Education Certificate; OR
  • At least one A-level in a relevant subject at grade A*-C OR more than one A-level at grades A*-E; OR
  • Related work experience (if you're an older learner we'll take into account your paid and unpaid experience, professional qualifications and life experience).
