This is a two-year part time programme at Level 4.

Course Details

The course comprises of core compulsory units of Maths and Science, which are designed to give you a broad overview of the subject area. You will study mechanical and electrical specialist units too, such as Mechanical Principles, Mechatronics, Engineering Design, Digital Principles, and project-based work.

Through the course you will also gain a sound knowledge and understanding of the engineering sector whilst developing research, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities which are essential employability skills for work within this field.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This course is assignment based using internally and externally set briefs.


Entry requirements

48 UCAS tariff points from either:

A Levels (including Maths/Science or a related subject)

A BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in a relevant subject

A BTEC Level 3 Diploma in a relevant subject

An EAL Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technologies

The following are also required:

Two satisfactory references

Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English

Applications from mature students with relevant professional/life experience in an engineering environment are welcome. You may be required to provide further evidence to decide on your suitability for the course and an admissions test may be used in certain circumstances.

Successful students can progress to the BTEC Higher National Diploma in Engineering or an Engineering degree course.
