Construction - HNC Modern Methods of Construction for England (HTQ)

The purpose of Pearson BTEC Higher Nationals in Modern Methods of Construction Management for England is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of employers in the construction sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualifications aim to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake them.

Having 'for England in the title means this qualification is designed to meet the requirements of specific Occupational Standards. Meeting the requirements of the Occupational Standards relates to:

Qualifications that are ‘quality marked’ as Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQ)

Qualifications that meet the knowledge, skills, and behaviours for identified job roles that are associated with the relevant Occupational Standards

You’ll learn through a combination of formal and informal sessions, collaboratively delivered with representatives from the sector, including practical, resource-based learning activities together with work-based learning.

Tutorial back-up relates both to the subject matter and individual mentoring.

You can expect that the tutor to learner ratio tends to be concentrated at 1:12. This allows the individual needs of the HE student to be met.

The Higher National Certificate (HNC) is a Level 4 qualification made up of 120 credits. The total guided learning hours for Higher National Certificate (HNC) = 480 hours.

Activity to support guided learning will be 90% classroom-based learning supervised by a tutor with 10% live e- learning supervised by a tutor.

The content of the programme is specified by Pearson with four units delivered in each of the years 1 and 2:

• Construction Environment/Digital Applications for Construction Information
• Construction Technology/ Principles of Off site Construction
• Principles of Alternative Energy/Construction Design Project
• Building Information Modelling/ Tender and Procurement

For students who have recently been in education, the entry requirements are to include one of the following:

A BTEC Level 3 qualification in Construction and The Built Environment

A level Grade E or above in more than one relevant subject.

This needs to be supported by GCSEs at Grade 9-4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths.

Other entry qualifications that will be considered are:

Other related Level 3 qualifications

An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution

Related work experience

An international equivalent of the above
