Course Summary
This course gives learners the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the Creative Digital Media Production Sector. It also supports progression to Level 3 qualifications in Creative Digital Media Production, or to an apprenticeship. As with other vocational courses, the work at level two is based on REAL industry scenarios. You will act as a media producer and fulfil the demands of media briefs to make a variety of media products across a range of platforms. In this one-year course you will explore a wide range of topics, therefore if you have an interest in creating and exploring film making, photography, TV production and web design you will enjoy this very interactive, practical course. You will learn about media through practical assignments and develop your skills in organisation, planning and communication. You will also use a range of software to create products that approach suitability for professional standards. You will learn to produce video, film and internet media products and benefit from using the fantastic facilities and equipment in our media centre.
Course Details
Unit: 1: Digital Media Sectors and Audiences (exam)
- Explore the different digital media sectors and the products they produce
- Understand the range of technological platforms used to distribute media
- Understand how each sector has a common production process
Unit 2: Planning and Pitching a Digital Media Product
- Develop your verbal, written and visual communication skills to enable you to understand the needs of your client (Game Developer)
- Formulate, develop and pitch your own ideas for a media product (video game)
- Undertake pre-production planning for a digital media product in preparation for the next phase in the process: production
Unit 3: Digital Moving Image Production
- Explore the construction of different types of moving image productions: fictional, factual and promotional
- Investigate key features of digital moving image productions, including structures, generic conventions and audience address, in preparation for the making of your film or video
Unit 6: Website Production
- Investigate the context in which websites exist as well as their purpose and uses
- Learn to organise and manage the production of a website, plan and prepare content suitably and create hyperlinks between pages

You will be assessed in a variety of ways: internally assessed coursework and externally set exams
Entry requirements
In GCSE English Language and Maths, a minimum of a grade 3 in one and a grade 2 in the other plus some GCSEs at grades 3 or 4
