About this course

The sport department at our college is proud to offer excellent facilities to support your learning and development. Our on-site gym is equipped with state-of-the-art cardiovascular machines, free weights, resistance machines, battle ropes, and kettlebells, providing an exceptional environment for fitness training. These facilities will be integrated into your study programme and can also be used recreationally at designated times.

For the sport and exercise massage module, we have access to dedicated spaces within the Hair and Beauty Department, including 12 massage beds, which are used for practical sessions and assessments.
In addition, the college boasts a large outdoor field and a versatile Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), both of which are utilised during practical modules. We are proud to collaborate with Bridlington CYP, giving students access to their indoor sports facilities every Wednesday afternoon for a wide variety of activities. These resources provide students with ample opportunities to engage in both academic and practical learning experiences.
Our experienced tutors and supportive environment will help you build your skills, knowledge, and self-belief, preparing you for a successful future in sport and fitness.

Course Details

Level 3

The NCFE Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity is a comprehensive two-year programme designed for learners aiming to advance their skills and knowledge within the sport and physical activity sector. This qualification is equivalent to three A-levels, providing an excellent foundation for progression into higher education or pursuing a career in a range of roles within the sports industry

Exercise health and lifestyle– Learn how regular physical activity and healthy habits contribute to long-term wellbeing and disease prevention

Preparing for a career in sport and physical activity– Explore different roles in the sports industry and develop the skills needed to pursue a successful career

Principles and practices in outdoor adventure– Understand the foundations of outdoor adventure activities, including safety, planning, and environmental responsibility

Sports injury– Study the causes, treatment, and prevention of common injuries in sport and physical activity

Sports and exercise massage– Learn massage techniques used to aid recovery, improve performance, and prevent injury in athletes

Current issues– Investigate contemporary challenges and trends in sport, such as inclusivity, technology, and ethics

The athletes’ lifestyle– Examine the daily routines, pressures, and support systems that shape the lives of professional athletes

Practical team and individual sports– Develop skills and tactical understanding through active participation in both team and solo sports

Sports nutrition– Discover how diet and supplementation impact athletic performance, recovery, and overall health

Sports coaching– Learn how to plan, deliver, and evaluate coaching sessions to support athlete development

Ethics and values in sport– Explore the moral principles and cultural values that influence behaviour and decision-making in sport

Leadership in sport– Develop leadership skills to motivate teams, manage conflict, and guide others in sporting environments

Skills for water-based activities– Gain practical experience and safety knowledge in water-based activities

Organising a sport event– Learn how to plan, promote, and deliver successful sporting events from start to finish

Principles and practices of outdoor adventurous activities– Study the techniques, planning and safety considerations involved in delivering outdoor adventure experiences

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment is based on the completion of assignment work and observation of tasks and activities.

Entry requirements

Level 3 – 4 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including English and Maths

Progression from Level 1 to 2 and from Level 2 to 3 would also require a pass at the lower-level vocational course

Your next steps...

Students who successfully complete their Level 3 studies will achieve the equivalent of three A-level qualifications. This accomplishment enables them to pursue higher education, including university courses aligned with their UCAS points.
Potential pathways include fields such as sports science, nutrition, physiotherapy, teaching, and sports coaching.
