Course Summary

This qualification is for students who have an interest in sport, leisure and fitness and who may want to further this study after Level 3. This qualification is not just about being able to play sport, it will also provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress into Higher Education on a sport related programme such as Sport and Physical Education, Sport Science, Sport Coaching and Development or Sport and Leisure Management.

Course Details

Learners will take between five and six units made up of mandatory and optional units: Everyone will study the following mandatory units: Body systems and the effects of physical activity Sports coaching and activity leadership Sports organisation and development These units will give learners an understanding of sport in the wider contexts of coaching and leadership, anatomy and physiology, the body�s short and long-term responses to physical activity and the framework of sport in the UK and the organisations involved. Learners will also develop transferable skills such as planning, communication, adaptability and leadership. Additional units will be discussed as a group with the teaching member of staff and the students and will meet the student�s interests and needs for their future pathways into the wider world.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The course is assessed by means of two formal external exams and internally assessed, externally moderated assignments: External: one 90 mins and one 60 mins. Internal: assignments will be split by Learning Objective for each unit. All assessments are moderated using Pass, Merit and Distinction.

Entry requirements

To study vocational courses you'll need: 4 GCSEs at Grade 9-4.
