Welcome to the Level 2 Applied Science course. This is an exciting and practical programme designed to introduce you to the key areas of science and how they are used in real-life situations and careers.

Assessment on this course is varied to help you develop different skills. You will complete a range of coursework assignments, including reports, presentations, and practical write-ups, as well as external exams. How will it be delivered and assessed?
The BTEC Level 2 in Applied Science at Bishop Burton College uses a practical, hands-on approach to learning, combining classroom theory with extensive laboratory-based activities. Students will engage in a wide range of experiments, investigations and real-world scenarios to develop their scientific understanding and technical skills. Teaching is delivered through a mix of interactive lessons, group work, independent research and project-based assignments, encouraging active participation and collaboration.
Learners are supported to develop confidence in applying scientific principles to vocational contexts, with a strong emphasis on problem-solving, critical thinking and reflective practice. Assessment is primarily coursework-based, allowing students to demonstrate their progress through practical tasks, reports and presentations rather than high-pressure exams.
Our approach ensures that students gain both the knowledge and the professional behaviours needed to progress successfully into further study, apprenticeships or science-related careers.
Work experience - Mandatory 40 Hours Work Experience. This course has internal assessments and exams. Internal assessment will include assignments that are sent with a 2 week period to complete.
