Course Summary

Our programmes combine knowledge and practical skills to give students a broad understanding of the principles of vehicle maintenance and repair.

The sessions are mostly practical, as are some of the assessments. All courses cover health and safety of the workplace and range from understanding the basics, repair, replacement, to diagnosing faults and inspecting vehicles, depending on the level studied. All prepare you for employment in the industry or the next steps in training for your career.

Course Details

The qualifications are aimed at learners who would like to develop basic knowledge and skills in motor vehicle systems. Successful learners will have acquired the basic skills and understanding needed to apply for an automotive apprenticeship. These qualifications could also be used as an ‘interest’ course for a wide range of learners.

You will be assessed by a range of techniques to include, observation of practical activities in workshops, oral questioning, written reports and online testing.

Work experience - There is an expectation each learner will undertake work experience, This can be arranged by the learner with the help of the college team to ensure that the placement is maintaining a safe working environment or potentially work experience may be offered through the colleges companies already providing placements for apprentices.

Trips, visits & guest speakers - As part of the study Programme, learners will have the opportunity to visit relevant work environments and/or manufacturers to gain an understanding of the processes of the industry. Parental/guardian permission for trip is essential and will be sought at the beginning of the course to prevent delays or disappointment.
