Course Summary

This qualification will provide classroom theory, practical learning and 315 hours industry placement with an employer. It has been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that it meets the needs of industry and to ensure you have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into skilled employment or higher level technical training relevant to the T Level.

Course Details

The Technical Qualification is the main classroom-based element of the course and consists of two parts:

Core Content

There are two components in the Core Content: Route Core Component and Pathway Core Component.

These provide you with the knowledge that underpins the industry with topics covering the following areas:

• Working within the Health Sector
• Health and Safety and Environmental Regulations in the Health Sector
• Managing Information and Data within the Health Sector
• Good Clinical Practice

The breadth of content will ensure you can apply your skills for different purposes and in different roles.

Occupational Specialisms

The Occupational Specialisms provide you with knowledge and skills required to enter employment or further study in the specific occupational area.

There are two parts to the Specialisms component:

• Occupational Specialism Core: Supporting Healthcare
• Supporting the Adult Nursing Team

Industry Placement

The industry placement allows you to develop your subject specific skills as well as those necessary to working in any environment, such as effective planning, working with others, health and safety and promoting equality and diversity.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Your studies will be across three full days per week. These will be mainly classroom based but you will also experience practical sessions in our simulation care unit. Over the two years of your technical qualification studies you will spend 80% on College-based studies and 20% on employer work experience. Your studies in College will be a combination of 30% online learning and 70% face to face on site, with 90% classroom based and 10% undertaking simulated practical activities. Our methods of delivery will include to large groups of students online, accompanied by workshops, tutorials, some independent studies, problem solving and work-based learning.

Core Content component:

• Paper A written examination

• Paper B written examination

• Employer-set project

In order to achieve a grade for the Core Content component, you must achieve results for both written examinations and the employer-set project. The combined results from these will be aggregated to form the overall Core component grade (A* to E and U).

If you fail to reach the minimum standard across all of these, you will receive a U grade. No overall grade will be issued for the Core component until all elements have been attempted.

Occupational Specialisms component:

• Synoptic assignments

You are also required to successfully achieve a Distinction/Merit/Pass grade in one of the Occupational Specialisms components. If you fail to reach the specified level of attainment, you will receive a U grade.


Entry requirements

4 or 5 GCSE subjects at grade 4 or above including English and/or Maths.

Equipment required

You will be required to complete a successful Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check prior to starting the course, for which there will be a charge. There is an optional cost to purchase the course textbook.
