Course Summary

Health and Social Care will develop knowledge, understanding and skills that will prepare students for progression to undergraduate study. It covers equality, diversity and rights, health and safety and person-centred approaches to care and mental health.

Course Details

Content - Exam unit - Principals of health and social care - Equality and diversity, safety and security, legislations

Exam unit - Anatomy and physiology - Respiratory system, cardiovascular system, digestive system, reproductive system, regulatory systems, musculoskeletal system

Coursework unit - Person centred approach to care - person centred care, meeting individual needs, communication skills

Coursework unit - Supporting people with mental health conditions - mental health conditions, mental health services, mental health treatment and support

Coursework unit - Investigating common health conditions - Symptoms, causes, diagnosis, support and treatments for common long term health conditions

Coursework unit - Supporting people in relation to sexual health, pregnancy and post natal care - Sexual health issues, pregnancy, birth and development in the first year of life

How will it be delivered and assessed?

-How it is assessed - The course is assessed in 6 units, 2 exam based assessments and 4 coursework based assessments, the units have equal weighting for the final grade.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at a grade 4 or above.
