The Esports industry is a fast-growing global industry. Esports is defined as organised competitive gaming, which is human versus human, either as individuals or in teams.
The Esports industry is one of the fastest-growing global sectors, extending far beyond competitive gaming. It encompasses business, marketing, event management, content creation, and digital media, making it a dynamic and exciting career path. Esports involves organised competitive gaming—human vs. human, either individually or as part of a team—but also incorporates the vast infrastructure that supports it, from event planning and branding to social media strategy and sponsorship management.
The BTEC Level 2 in Esports is an intermediate qualification designed for post-16 learners who want to develop practical skills and industry knowledge in preparation for careers in digital marketing, event management, business operations, and Esports production. It serves as a stepping stone to Level 3 qualifications, apprenticeships, or employment in the wider digital and technology sectors.
This full-time course provides a balance of theory and hands-on experience, giving students the chance to apply their learning in real-world industry scenarios. Developed with input from leading employers, the qualification builds transferable workplace skills, such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and business acumen, which are highly valued across multiple industries.
At its core, this qualification prepares young professionals for the evolving digital economy. Whether you want to progress to a Level 3 qualification in Esports, Business, ICT, or Media, or pursue an apprenticeship or entry-level role in digital content creation, marketing, event planning, or technology support, this course provides the skills and confidence to take that next step.
WHO IS THE COURSE AIMED AT?
The qualification is aimed at learners who are looking to progress to further education. It offers learners the opportunity to study esports alongside English and Mathematics media. The qualification is endorsed by The British Esports Association as being suitable for learners as an introduction to esports.
The content of this qualification has been developed in consultation with key stakeholders. This ensures that the content is appropriate and consistent with current industry practice to enable learners to enter employment or further study. This is a career-focused qualification with industry endorsement enabling learners to develop underpinning knowledge and technical and transferable skills that gain experience in a variety of different sections of the Esports industry
You must have a minimum of four GCSEs at grades 9-3, including English Language and Maths.

EXPERIENCES
This course will provide you with the opportunity to take part in trips to EGX London, the biggest gaming event of the year. You will be able to visit panels featuring the biggest names in gaming and hear all about unreleased games and technology, as well as play some of those games yourself! Within the college, you’ll be able to take part in the Upskilling Programme which will feature gaming and coding clubs, as well as our Esports Team, the Wilberforce Wolves!
PROGRESSION
Ideally you would be keen to join our Level 3 programme in Esports or ICT to further develop the skills you have learned.
OUTCOMES
Students who complete a qualification in IT go on to a wide variety of jobs. These can include: Community manager, Event Manager, Programmer, Social Media, Organisation manager to name a few.
