BTEC Applied Science

The BTEC level 3 Extended Certificate in Applied Science offers a practical, hands-on approach to learning about science and its real-world applications. You’ll study key areas of biology, chemistry, and physics, developing your understanding through experiments, coursework, and applied investigations.

How Will it be Delivered?

The course will be delivered through teacher led lessons, practical investigations, problem solving practice, coursework and independent study. Students’ progress will be monitored through regular assessment and independent learning. This is monitored throughout the course.

Assessment:

BTEC Applied Science is assessed externally by three exam papers (two in Year 12 and one in Year 13) and one internally assessed coursework unit based on lab work.

After completing a BTEC in Applied Science, you can progress to a range of exciting pathways. Many students go on to university courses such as Biomedical Science, Forensic Science, Environmental Science, or Nursing. You could also choose a higher or degree apprenticeship in laboratory science, healthcare, or pharmaceuticals. Alternatively, you might move directly into employment in scientific laboratories, healthcare settings, or technical roles. The practical and analytical skills you develop will be highly valued in both science and industry careers.
