Course Summary

In this one year course you will explore a wide range of 2D and 3D media, techniques and processes, working through design process; completing primary research from which you will create initial ideas, and then developing these into a final piece. You will use the work of other artists to inspire you, as well as analysing and evaluating your own art work. You will be part of an outstanding, lively department with specialist facilities and discreet progression year classes, taught by highly qualified, friendly, dedicated staff with their own specialisms. Many students who enjoy and successfully complete this course progress onto a Level 3 qualification in Art and Design, Fashion or Graphics.

Course Details

Students will engage with a range of Art and Design disciplines in the first unit of the course including Painting, Sculpture, Photography, Textiles, Fashion as well as Graphic Design, Motion Graphics, Illustration, Animation and Games Design. Students then decide their chosen specialism of Art and Design through discussion to create their own brief and project.

To enhance studies at college, students have the opportunity to get involved in trips and visits to complete primary research for projects. This can include trips to places of interest such as London, Manchester and Leeds. As well as practical work for this course, students will also be given chance to work on a live brief, giving them vital skills when working with a client.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be internally assessed throughout the year and during the end of year external moderation. There is not an exam in this Level 2 course.

Entry requirements

In GCSE English Language and Maths, a minimum of a grade 3 in one and a grade 2 in the other plus some GCSEs at grades 3 or 4

Your next steps...

Your Guidance Support Tutor will explore all of your options with you and help you decide what’s right for you.
