Course Summary

Studying geography will give you the opportunity to develop a huge variety of key skills which are transferable to other subjects and many different careers – application of number, quantitative and qualitative research, cartographic (maps), graphical, statistical, communication, investigation, ICT, Geographical Information Systems (GIS) problem solving, working with others to name a few.

Course Details

YEAR 12

We study the physical geography units of Hazards and Coastal Systems and the human geography unit of Changing Places.

In addition, we learn lots of geographical skills and will complete 3 days of fieldwork; one at the coast; one as a place study in a local area; and a workshop at the Cranedale Centre in North Yorkshire.

YEAR 13

Units studied will include:

• Water and carbon cycles

• Global systems and governance

• Population and Environment

• Individual Fieldwork Enquiry (NEA)


How will it be delivered and assessed?

Physical geography – written exam, 2 hours 30 minutes. 40% of A level.

Human geography - written exam, 2 hours 30 minutes. 40% of A level.

Geography fieldwork investigation – individual investigation of 3,000-4,000 words. Marked by teacher, moderated by AQA. 20% of A level. There is a mandatory requirement of 4 days of fieldwork.
