Course Details
Hull College partners with local and national businesses to offer you a wide range of learning opportunities, helping you kickstart or advance your professional journey while gaining accredited qualifications.
Our programmes provide a strong foundation of skills and knowledge to support your career in your chosen field. Whatever path you choose, our team of experts are here to guide you in achieving your career goals and aspirations. An apprenticeship is a paid position where you will learn on the job and gain valuable experience, making it an attractive option if you’re looking to gain experience, upskill, or change careers. Key benefits include:
- Development of experience and skills
- A nationally recognised qualification with no tuition fees
- Employee benefits and a wage
- Networking with industry professionals
Apprenticeship Levels - Apprenticeships correspond to different qualification levels. Depending on the level of your apprenticeship, you may require:
- Prior qualifications such as GCSEs in English or maths - specific grades may be required too.
- Additional training in English or maths to ensure you meet the required standards
For those not ready for an apprenticeship, there are great full-time alternatives, offering a chance to develop the necessary skills and experience you need to kickstart your career.
Apprenticeship Wages - the wage you’ll earn as an apprentice depends on factors such as industry, location, and apprenticeship level.
- If you’re aged 16-18 or in your first apprenticeship year you will be entitled to the apprentice rate (currently £7.55 per hour)
- If you’re aged 19 or over and have completed the first year of your apprenticeship you will be entitled to the National Minimum Wage (currently £10.00 per hour).
Apprenticeship wage rates increase on 1st April every year. For details on apprenticeship and minimum wage rates look on: www.gov.uk
How will it be delivered and assessed?
As an apprentice the law requires you to spend 20% of your paid time on 'off-the-job' training. This essential training helps you develop the skills you need to complete your apprenticeship and can include:
- Theory-based learning (e.g., classroom lessons, lectures, online courses)
- Practical training (e.g., shadowing, mentoring, industry visits)
- Support for assignments and learning tasks
- Training can take place within or outside of the work environment. The 20% training requirement is flexible and can be structured to fit your daily, weekly, or block release schedules, this will be agreed with your employer
Entry requirements
If you’re over 16 you can apply for an apprenticeship. There are no upper age limits. Apprenticeships are an excellent opportunity for anyone aged 16 and over in England if you are:
- Early in your career
- Looking to upskill in your current job
- Seeking a career change
- Not in full-time education
- Looking for new opportunities
- Want to earn while you learn
