Course Summary

Applied Science allows students to explore in depth, the fascinating subjects of biology, chemistry, and physics and how these vital sciences are applied in industry.

Throughout the two-year course, you will have many opportunities to gain practical skills in areas including analysis of chemicals, enzymes, and circuits. If you enjoyed practical science at school this is a great choice. As a single Applied General, it complements many other courses including Health and Social Care and Sport and supports progression into careers requiring a science qualification.

Assessment is mainly coursework based, which gives students the opportunity to look at science topics in great depth whilst working towards a portfolio of assignments. This interesting and varied course provides sound knowledge of science which is viewed favourably by many universities.

Year 1

In the first year, you will study 2 units:

Principles & Applications of Science

Practical Scientific Procedures

Year 2

In the second year, you will study a further 2 units:

Scientific Investigation Skills

Physiology of Human Body Systems

Assessment will include examination and written assessments.

Entry requirements

You will need to meet the Level 3 Applied General entry requirements of 4 GCSEs at grade 4 including English Language and/or Maths.
