Course Summary

TThe Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) is a well-respected and recognised qualification within the accounting profession. It is recognised as a major qualification for Technician level accounting staff. Students who gain their Diploma and Professional Diplomas and who have relevant accounting work experience can apply for membership of the AAT and will normally get exam exemptions from the Chartered Accounting Bodies. The evening course will be carried out using a blended approach which consists of both face-to-face teaching and self-study. The full day at Wakefield will be all face-to-face teaching. In addition to this, students are expected to do 6 hours per week self-directed study in order to reinforce and develop their learning.


Course Details

This qualification covers a range of essential and higher-level accounting techniques and disciplines. Students will learn and develop skills needed for a range of financial processes, including maintaining cost accounting records, advanced bookkeeping and the preparation of financial reports and returns.

The course consists of four units:

• Financial Accounting: Preparing financial statements

• Management accounting techniques

• Tax processes for Business • Business Awareness

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The course will be taught daytime or evening at Wakefield Campus.

Attendance should be more than 80%

There are four computerised assessments in total which are set by the AAT and taken online at the College. Two of the units will be marked electronically, and results will be given within a few hours of the exam. Business awareness and Management accounting will be marked by AAT and these results take up to 6 weeks.


Entry requirements

GCSEs at Grade 9-4 in English and Maths.

AND

Have a job role in Finance or Accounting.

AND

You will need to have successfully completed the AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting.

Consideration will be given to students who have a suitable alternative qualification in accounting.


Your next steps...

Students may progress through the AAT levels to level 4, then to further Accounting qualifications with one of the Chartered bodies. The AAT has close links with various accountancy bodies and exam exemptions may be available if you choose to progress to Chartered level.
