Course Summary

AQA Fine Art A Level is a two-year program designed for students who want to develop their creative practice in traditional and contemporary fine art. It focuses on personal expression, visual problem-solving, and technical skill across a range of media such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and mixed media. The course encourages experimentation, critical thinking, and independent development of ideas.

Course Details

Component 1: Personal Investigation (60% of A Level) A sustained project exploring a personal theme or concept.

Component 2: Externally Set Assignment (40% of A Level)

Response to an AQA-set theme released in February of Year 13.

Preparation Period: Typically 8–12 weeks of research and experimentation.

Timed Exam: 15 hours of supervised work to create a final outcome.

Assessment Focus: Same as Personal Investigation, emphasizing independent creative development and technical skill.

AO1: Develop ideas through research and critical understanding.

AO2: Refine ideas through experimentation with media and techniques.

AO3: Record observations, insights, and reflections in sketchbooks or journals.

AO4: Produce a personal and resolved final piece or series.
