Course Overview
AQA 3D Art and Design A Level is a two-year program designed for students who want to explore three-dimensional art forms. This includes sculpture, ceramics, jewellery, architecture, environmental design, installation art, and other forms of spatial design. The course focuses on creativity, experimentation, technical skill, and the development of a personal visual language. Students are encouraged to investigate both traditional and contemporary 3D practices while developing conceptual thinking.

Course Structure
Component 1: Personal Investigation (60% of A Level)
A sustained project exploring a personal theme or concept in 3D.
Component 2: Externally Set Assignment (40% of A Level)
Response to an AQA-set theme released in February of Year 13.
Preparation Period: Typically 8–12 weeks of research, experimentation, and model-making.
Timed Examination: 15-hour practical exam producing a final 3D outcome.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment Focus:
AO1: Develop ideas through research and investigation of artists, designers, and craft makers.
AO2: Refine ideas through experimentation with 3D techniques and materials.
AO3: Record observations, experiments, and reflections in sketchbooks, models, or journals.

Practical Techniques: Sculpting, modelling, ceramics, metalwork, textiles for 3D, casting, installation, and mixed media.
Creative Thinking: Conceptual development, experimentation, problem-solving in three-dimensional space.
Research & Analysis: Understanding historical and contemporary 3D artists, designers, and makers.
Recording & Presentation: Documenting processes, sketches, maquettes, and reflections.
