This-Ability is a National Lottery Community Fund programme aimed at finding 500 young people sustainable employment.

The aim of the project is to provide specialist support and training for young people to access work and learning. This will give young people the opportunities to explore and experience specific occupational sectors. Participants will also complete an ‘Employability Passport’.

Working for Health is an organisation that helps to change people’s lives in their journey back to employment. We offer support for people with a disability/learning disability/difficulty or a long-term health/Mental health condition to redefine their skills and find new opportunities – helping get closer to the world of work. In conjunction with Humber Learning Consortium we are running the This-Ability programme, to engage with learners with a disability/learning disability/difficulty or a long-term health/Mental health condition and help them secure employment.

Course Details

The This Ability Programme at Working for Health enables the participant to complete the CBI employability skills and core capability skills, gain their employability passport, and prepares them for employment in the Health and Social Care sector. This is achieved by providing a blended approach to learning with one to one mentoring and coaching, classroom-based learning, as well as work experience opportunities.

These one to one meetings continue at regular intervals throughout the programme. These are held either in our offices, during their work placement or closer to home if required. As soon as is practicable, the participant starts on their work placement of one day or one-half day a week.

The classroom-based sessions are twice weekly. The first includes job search related activities such as CV development, application forms, interview preparation, communication skills development, digital skills training, and team building exercises.

The second classroom day is specific care skills training based on the Care Certificate. This training gives the participants the opportunity to consider the theory relating to working in Health and Social Care.

The training is on a rolling basis, there would be no need to wait until the course starts again, people can join at any time. Areas covered in the Care Certificate include: Duty of Care, Safeguarding, First Aid, Infection Prevention, Basic Life support and many more.
