UAL Level Three Diploma/Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology

Our ethos is one of experiential learning and research informed practice, with a focus on developing a wide-range of practical skills initially to generate a varied toolkit to draw upon during your later studies. Live projects and real-world experiences are regularly made available to learners of all levels, particularly in the areas of Design, Video Production and Photography; providing a wealth of opportunity to both develop and experiment.

You will be encouraged to follow your own paths by developing a broad range of skills and will gradually specialize. The course takes place over 2 years, with the Diploma in Year 1 and the Extended Diploma in Year 2. Broad pathways are offered Film and VFX, Photography, Interactive and Games, but the emphasis is very much upon individual choice and challenge; moving between any of these areas is achievable throughout the course.

Exploring Interactive Production Techniques including Games Engines, Interactive Narratives and Interactivity for Still Image

As you progress the subjects become increasingly focused upon personal specialization, experimentation and ownership of learning; the goal being that learners will be ready for studies at higher levels upon completion and the curriculum has been designed by the awarding body University of the Arts London to ensure undergraduates are prepared in this regard. Learners completing UAL Level 3 awarding body courses are currently guaranteed an interview for applications to the UAL Group of Colleges.

Each stage is completed by a Final Major Project, which is graded and externally moderated, these set the overall grades achieved for the Diploma and Extended Diploma stage. The grade for the Extended Diploma is not limited by that from the Diploma, which allows learners to develop at their own pace more in comparison to other awarding bodies, without penalty.

UAL programmes are assessed continually through coursework projects, with a final major project at the end of each year. The final major project is the only graded element of the course, allowing for the diverse nature of personal progression more than individually graded units.

4 GCSEs at Grade 4 – 9 including English and Maths at Grade 3 or above

or

Level 2 in a related discipline e.g. Media, Art, Design or Photography.

Portfolios of work are requested at interviews too.

We have designed the curriculum of the UAL Level 3 to provide learners with the correct skills and aptitudes to start the BA in Contemporary Media Design and Production as part of our coherent curriculum from Level 1 through to 6; therefore learners who complete this programme successfully would be welcomed to make applications to our HE courses.

Higher Apprenticeships or employment in the media industry.
